Remaining oil life

My '09 Silverado 1500 LT used to show the remaining oil life on the display in the gauge cluster when I pressed the trip meter stalk. I do not have the DIC buttons to the left of the gauge cluster.

For the past couple of days, though, the oil life display doesn't show up. It does show the odometer, trip mileage, compass, compass calibration, trans temp, and ambient temp, but not the oil life.

Has this happened to anyone else? Is there an easy fix, or do I have to take this to the dealer?

On an unrelated note, a friend at work has an '08 Silverado that gave him a problem that you might want to check for. He was at a funeral, and the funeral director asked him to turn on his hazard lights. He was standing beside the truck, and reached through the window to press the button. When he did, both front airbags deployed! Fortunately, no one was in the front seat (his wife and daughter were in the back seat), and no one was hurt. The dealer is replacing the computer and air bags.

The engine oil life will only show up when the truck is in park. Where you trying to check it while driving?

That worked! I wonder why that isn't mentioned in the owner's manual?
