vent hose?

The other day I noticed this rubber hose hanging down near my transfer case. After a further review, I believe it runs back up above the TC and possibly up above the tranny.

It appears to be a vent hose of some type, but I don't recall ever seeing it before. I'm wondering if it was connected to something or if its support system or ziptie broke or something.

It looks kinda dumb since you can now see it from the side profile. Also I'm thinking that in high water that could be a problem.

I figured I'd ask here about it before I just tie it up somewhere high & out of view.

I would check to make sure it hasn't come loose from the transmission or the transfer case and then secure it with a zip tie. You are right in that you don't want it hanging down where it can be submerged as it will draw in water during a water crossing if it's allowed to get submerged.
