Default make my own level lift kit??

i have some fab experience and was wondering if it would be alright to make my own level kit for my 08 silverado. i would use 1/2 steel plates and make lower strut mount extensions like in the rough country kit. i would use either 3 or 4 plates to make a 1.5 or 2 inch lift. i would shell out the 80 bucks for the kit from them but have the steel laying around and all the tools i need so figured i could save a few bucks this way. thanks

my problem is my wheel width... 17x9
the offset isnt enough for that width which is why they rub, but i would recommend a 2.5 lift if you can get one... just to be on the safe side

Although its always fun and a much better feeling to build something yourself, I would err on the side of caution and purchase them . So many bad things could happen especially when it comes to warrenty issues or an accident with another vehicle

I just put the Rough country leveling kit on my truck. I bought from a guy on my rig that had put on a 6" suspension. He didnt have the boltsthat came with it cause they used them again. You can get the bolts from rough country for $8.79 and that is with shipping. One thing to look at is that the plates they send are two 1/4" plates and one 1/2" plate to equal out to a full 1" plate.. So my best guess is that every 1/4" you put under the strut raises the front 1/2" . So I would not put a full 2.5 inch plate in there. To get the 2.5" you are looking for you would want to go with 1.25 inches of plate under the strut.

What did you decide to do? I was thinking the same thing.
