I am buying an 89 V1500 4wd. For some odd reason, the guy who I am getting it from took out all the carpeting, and the head liner?? This isnt my first order of buisness on the truck, the AC he let sit for 7 years without recharging is definitly my first to go..
I have never had to get anything like this before. I wanna know the following:
Where are good places to buy the head liner, and carpet kit? Should I buy online and have it shipped? Can I order something like these through a Chevy dealer cheaper? Or how about maybe an auto upholstery shop?? I am obviously trying to save $$$$$. Then, once I get it, how easy is it to DIY? It seems like all you have to do is take out the seats, and drop the kit in, or something along those lines.. What about the headliner? Do I use a spray adhesive to put that up? Is there a recommended brand?
With summer coming, I really want to insulate this truck better, esp. before I get the AC taken care of..
Bottom line.. How easy are the two to do on my own? Where is a good place to start to order both, and is there a good site with easy instructions on both?
Thanks

i know JCWhitney.com has the carpeting you are looking for, premolded and has the insulator backing on it already as well, the headliner I am not to sure about.

Wow that was a fast response, thank you very much. I will look into them.
I have a '90 model which is basically the same thing. The guy I bought mine from said it had a leak in the roof around where the roof racks are mounted, so he had to replace the headliner and seal and repaint the top....that may be why the headliner and carpet were removed from yours. So you may want to make sure it doesnt leak before you put your new stuff in.
I have a buddy I'll see later today that knows of a web site that has everything one would need to completely rebuild a Suburban piece by piece inside and out. I'll get it later and post it if someone doesnt post it first.
Good luck and post some photos so we can see it!

Darn, I didnt even think leaks, I just jumped to the guy either just being nuts, or starting something inside, and not finishing? It actually gets stranger, he took out the dash kit in the truck too. I will get to ask him more in person in a few days, and get definite anwsers to my many questions..lol
So, actually, thats another thing I need to get too, a dash cap and kit. That shouldnt be hard. Hubby does painting on the side, so, I will just find one in a yard, take it out myself, and have him paint it.
But I will definitly be taking a ton of before and after pics..lol I never really had a "project car" before.. So, this is kinda exciting to me. I figgured I could buy one in a "better condition" but then shell out the money for the lift, tires and wheels, and exhaust. This already has all that, and just needs interior stuff re done - totally nothing that affects the driving. Its got a great straight body, runs solid and sound. Thats whats important to me!
i took all mine out to do the floor work and such...itll see some mud so none is going back in...maybe rubber at the best...maybe since the dash is out too he wanted a different color....
If you are going to be putting any kind of new stereo or speakers or anyhing of that nature, this would be a good time to do it. It's way easier to run new wires without the carpet and the dash in there.
You might check http://www.lmctruck.com/ they have just about anything you would ever need.

I will take pics soon. But the inside is a tan color, so I was thinking of doing something a little different. I will drop in black carpet, and put in a black headliner, and leave the seats, visors, and everything else tan. Since the truck is black, I think the contrast inside will be nice.
I am going to black out the truck eventually. So, the only color will be on the inside, and its not anything too bold or wild. I think it will give it a clean classic look, atleast I hope.. lol
