    Exclamation 1993 k1500 transmission swap

Currently I have a 93 chevy k1500 4x4 with the nv 3500 5 speed transmission. I am currently building my truck up to 450- 500 hp and I know that the nv3500 wont support this much hp. I was wondering if anyone knew whether or not I should get this transmission built up, or look for another transmission that can handle the hp. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you want to keep the manual, I would have it built up to handle what you need. I dont think a Camaro or corvette tranny would fit not without getting a new driveshaft as they probably are a different length

I don't know much about manual transmissions, but the NV 4500 would probably be fine. It might be easiest to get one with a matching transfer case (NP241) out of a 3/4 or 1 ton from a salvage yard. As for driveshafts - having them lengthened or shortened shouldn't be a huge deal.

The NV3500 can handle 300HP, pushing more than that would be hazardous to it's existence. I would go with something else, like the NV4500.

Yeah I am considering going with the nv4500, but of course I am trying to go for the cheapest route. Does anyone know anything about the cost of building up an nv3500?

building a NV3500 is expensive. They require specialty tools and they are extremely hard to work with on the inside. I asked my mechanic about rebuilding mine just out of curiosity and he said they are tough to work on.
