i have a 1997 1500 suburban... ive called around to different tire shops, and everyon is telling me that 285/75/16's are too large, and that i will have clearance issues...but i have a buddy who has a 95 ck1500 tahoe and hes rollin around just fine on his..... now im wondering are the wheelbases different from a tahoe to suburban, OR will it actually work, or should i just bump up to a 265/75/16.....my burban come from the factory actually running 245/75/16's....any input would be great!!! thanks

I have 265/75/16 and just fine, but I have been told by many on here that 285/75/16 will fit without issues, which I will be going to when I get new tires in the fall, mine came with the 245s as well so when I get the 285s i will get a programmer to help adjust the computer for the bigger tires. 285s are 32.7 and 245 are about 30.5"

Most people seem to fit 285/75/16's just fine. I have seen a few reports of people needing to do a little fender trimming to keep the 285's from rubbing. I expect the tire shops are erring on the side of caution by saying that you may have clearance issues ("a few per cent of people will have clearance issues, and we don't want to deal with that few per cent when they complain to us").

285 75 might rub a little bit at full steering lock. I think that 285 70 16 will fit fine. My friend's dad ran those tires on a 1500 without a problem.![]()

I have 285/75/16's on my Suburban and before I put the lift on, they did not rub at all. This picture is before the lift and you can see it is close, but does not touch.

I have a 97 Gmc suburban 1500-4x4.... I have 265/75-16's on there now and want to get some mud or aggressive tread tires for hunting and winter.
So the 285/75-16's will not rub correct? I need a E rated mud tire. Who makes one?
I disagree they would be the same width but the 285.70 would be like .4 inches shorter but the same width
