    Default Newbie with several problems

    Hi Folks,
I have a 2000 Silverado with 100,000 miles on a 5.3 engine. Lately my fuel gauge bounces around even after filling the tank it often goes to empty. My 2000 Corvette does the same so what is it with Chevy sending units? Anyone else have this problem, if so, cna you pass on what you did to fix it. Thanks.

Sending unit. There are about two dozen posts on this issue. Just have a look around a little.. you'll find more information than you'll want.

Welcome to the site, Dan. I have not heard of this problem, before. My '04 has 120,000+ it w/o any problem. I'm sure if it is a "common" problem, you'll get some inlput.

if you just totally can't stand it, slide truck bed back to clear tank and replace pump and sending unit. while you there. pumps fail on those sooner than later anyway.

On my '98 dodge i used to have we found it was easier to drop the fuel tank rather than slide the bed back. Chevy's might be different. If you do replace the unit or pump make sure you do it when the tank is near empty. It makes it alot easier. Good luck.

you are correct, it is the sending unit, but the bad thing about that, is that the sending unit and the fuel pump are all in one part. i am on my 4th one. im not going into details b/c its way too much to type, and it is posted here in about 4 different places. long story short, AC DELCO!!!!! DO NOT GO THE CHEAP ROUTE and get some off brand, do not listen to the guy behind the counter when he tells you that a fuel pump is a fuel pump because they arent!

not sure on truck but I hav 97 C5 Corvette that had same prob.. very common with C5's.. easy solution.. go to www.zip-corvette.com and get 1 bottle BG44k fuel additive.. Run ur Vette tank empty then put in that bottle and fill tank with Chevron fuel ... Cause of prob is running cheap gas.. Use Chevron ONLY.. trust me it works.. My prob disappeared immediately.. somehow the cheap gas messes up the computer in V.. good luck
