need help with my rear dif.
a while back i blew up my rear end but i couldnt afford to get it fixed the right way. so i bought a chevy axle with a 3.55 (i think) gear ratio but my truck had 3.73 gears. so i disconnected the front drive shaft so that it would be okay to drive. But now i want to fix it. my question is can i take the old ring and pinnion from my old axle and put it on the new differential case (that has the spiders)? will the bolt pattern for the rings match up?

Maybe. It would be nice if you gave us specific vehicle information. Assuming the new axle and the old axle/ring gear diameter are the same, you should be able to swap R&P from one axle to the other.
The trickiest part of this is getting the gears set up right. Most of the time, the recommendation is to let a professional set the gears up for you unless you have some experience already doing it, or at least, someone in the know to coach you through the process. Setting up gears can be a tedious process, tolerances are tight, and, if you get it wrong, you'll ruin the R&P in short order.'98 K1500 Suburban LS 5.7 L 4L60E NV246 ARB

If you have a GM 10 bolt 8.6 the carrier break is at 256 / 273. So the ring and pinion should work. However like Mr. Shorty said you need to have someone familiar with setting it up or you are just about guaranteed it will be noisy.

First off when you "blew up" your old rear end what exactly blew?
The R&P might not even be useable depending on what went wrong with the old axle.
