Hey everyone,
Just bought an 05 Silverado (LS 5.3 2wd Extended Cab) last week. I have already put a crap ton of miles on it (about 1300) putting the odometer at 86950. Starting a couple days ago I noticed that when cruising about 45, without the cruise, the truck has A LOT of vibration and jerking and bucking. I am a fleet manager and have 5 05 6.0L 2500HD's at work and I have never seen this problem before. I read something that there may be an issue with the torque convertor.
I also noticed, after I put Flow Masters on it Monday, that when you are cruising, again at 45ish w/o cruise control, the RPM's dive in and out. It will drop as low as 1000 and spike as high as 1800. If this is a torque convertor issue, that could explain this problem.
Has anyone else heard or experienced anything like this before?
Thanks!
I know the f250 and f350's are notorious for having the torque converters start to slip and go out but I don't think that a slipping torque converter will cause vibrations. Have you checked the wear and had the tires balanced yet? Tires are the first place I start with vibration issues.

I did have the tires rotated and balanced and it did no good; plus the tires are very new. I had them checked and they are not out of round or anyting. I just realized I said torque converter... I meant to be saying Lock Up Preventer.
My F150 used to vibrate at 40 to 50 mph and a mechanic told me to tap the brake and it would immediately stop and that worked. IT is a 92 and now we dont use it very much anymore just on and around our property, so now Im wondering about the torque converter after all these years!

The things I always check for with vibes are tire balance and alignment. If the tires are indeed round and balanced, then I'd check the alignment. Could be the issue, but you don't have oversized tires, so that probably isnt the case. I'd also check for a bad hub or worn ball joints.

With the RPMs jumping all over I would be pretty suspicious of fuel delivery. PSI, fuel pump, injectors?
