I have an 09 Silverado extended cab with the 5.3L that has begun to make this ticking noise. The truck currently has 1500 miles but I first noticed it at 500 miles. At first I thought it only made it when the ambient temperature was below 35 degrees. The video in the link below was taken at 65 degrees. Typically the noise occurs at initial startup and lasts anywhere from 15 seconds to 10 minutes. It sounds like a lifter issue to me. I have an appointment with a dealer on monday morning but was wondering if anyone else has experienced this problem. Thanks. Nice idea capturing the clicking on video! It does not sound right to me. My 09 Silverado has about the same miles as yours and sounds smooth. I'd say this is definitely something to look into now while your truck is new. I'll be interested to know what others say might be the cause. Sadly, I am not qualified to even speculate as to the cause.

Chevy 210, I have a 2009 5.3 Silverado. 1200 miles. I just had this happen last Thursday for the first time leaving work. Lasted about 10 seconds. Definately sounded like a lifter noise. I am curious at what they have to say. Please keep us posted. Thanks, Kevin

Good luck guys, I am sure they will give you some kind of "thats normal until past the break in period" line but that sounds like yuou have some oiling problems at start up

They will say it is from carbon build up on pistons . my 02 does and always has and now it has 115,000 on it and never had a problem. did you idle it a lot in winter ? this is a common chevy problem . its caused by carbon build up and the piston rocking in the cylinder.
Picked my truck up today. The problem is caused by the lifters partially draining and air becoming entrained in the oil. GM is supposed to be working on a redesigned lifter and until that process is complete, nothing will be done unless a truck is experiencing misfires or trouble codes. The tick is apparently nothing more than annoying.
There have been some problems with the AFM lifters bleeding down.It is not from carbon build up on a new truck with 1500 miles on it.
