Hey everyone,
Never owned any american design/made trucks, but just bought a 05 chevy silverado 1500 2wd v6. I do landscaping as my profession and have been maxing out the suspension every day the past two weeks. It runs like a champ with about 3/4 yard wet soil in the 8 ft bed. So anyway I was just wondering what type of problems occur with the 1500's of 05 vintage. I'm sure the balljoints will go around 80,000 or so? I have 17,000 miles on it right now. Looking forward to getting some nice aftermarket stuff for it. So anything I have to worry about? I only have 17000 miles but the tires are almost worn out, I bought the truck a week ago, must be realllly shoddy tires or something!
Make sure check on your leaf springs, maybe you should invest in 3/4 tonne springs for your rear suspension, it will stiffen it up a good amount so you won't be bottoming it out. And for your tires, check your tire pressure often. What tires do you have on the truck currently? Also, check your front shocks too, a friend of mine was changing his, and they were totally done. He could compact one with his hands, and when he was taking the other one off it blew in two. Maybe a tire alignment and balancing would stop some odd wear too.
