Default Loud Klank when 4x4 engages

    Hi all,

04 Sillverado 4x4 Z71 Crew with 92k, when I engage the 4x4 via push button there is a very loud clanking. It didn't use to be there, I am guessing I need to do some lubrication etc. but not sure where what etc. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Happy rollin & thanks in advance.
    Phil

check your diff fluids and change that out if its not been done yet and check your linkage area's maby its out of wack wont me much cause of the pushbutton system maby something internal on the front diff if there is metal shaving in the gear oil or is silvery looking then you got problems and head straight to a gm service place or drive line shop

    Hi,

I noticed it when I went into Low, but then it did the same thing when going into high. Though Sunday when I went into High it was quiet, "didn't try low" so it might just be Low.

    Autotrac

I tested again yesterday, it is definitely when I shift into LOW. If I just go from 2 to 4 HI there isn't a noise, if I go from 2 to 4 LO there is a loud klank, if I go from 4 LO to 4 HI the same noise is there.

    Thanks again

That clank is normal. I have it on mine as well. That is just the transfer case changing into low. I actually love the sound.
