Default I Want Another Suburban! Why?!

I had a '99 1500 Lt. It ate computers - at least 3 at $800 a pop. At about 150K it ate the transmission. An new rebuild lasted about a year. She laid down with me when I was 400 miles from home with the family and I traded her in on a 2006 Expediition. NOT the same. I miss the Burban!

I am NOT willing to buy new. I would like to get one with about 75K or so on it.

    QUESTION:
After 1999 have they improved the vehicle? and Not just looks? If so, what is different? What are the improvements in say, the 2001, 02,03, 04's?

    Thanks for any input.

well I'm pretty sure in 01 they switched to the 5.3 instead of the 5.7 that was around up till 99.

I've never heard of the computer eating issue with the gas motors though. My 99 sierra has 203k on the clock and the computer is fine. Tranny going at 150k is about what I've seen with the family's past burbs.

As mentioned, the 5.3 engine came in with the 2001 models. I'm not sure when the L460 trannys came in, but my '04 crew cab 1/2 ton has over 120k and still going strong. There are some pretty good deals on used Sub's around here, so it is a buyer's market! Good luck!

I'd say you 99 suburban looked good. Looks got worse after they broke that mold. particulary the A pillar forward. I prefer the steeper & larger windshield and longer hood.

Surprised you had that much trouble with a gas Sub. I wanted a diesel and in order to get a reliable one I went back to 1985.

My 03 has been going strong for 161,000 miles. I just recently got it, but I'm extremely happy with it! It didn't let us down on our 3500mile round trip to Florida..

I have a '90 Sub' with 185K+ miles. Just had the tranny rebuilt and put a shift kit in and new torque converter. Had to change out the automatic locking hubs to manual (personal preference) and change a rear outer bearing. Just recently gave it a tune up too. I've only owned it for two years but I'd say it's a tough truck. Take it off roading quite often too. Worst thing about it is it's hard to turn around in the woods!

I was told '99 was a good year for 'burbs, especially with the 5.7L vortec. Unsubstantiated rumor has it that VIN's starting with a 1 or 2 are best, since these were produced in US and Canada.

    Good luck!
