I've been researching head units for a while. I had pretty much decided on a Kenwood unit, but my decision was mainly based on the fact that it has an RMS output of 22 watts per channel, which is higher than most brands.
The more I research, the more I notice that I like the features of other brands better than the Kenwood, so I've begun to wonder, does the output of the headunit make THAT much of a difference?
I have found a Pioneer unit that I really like. I had a Pioneer in my last truck and loved it. It has an RMS output of 14 watts per channel. Would that extra 8 watts per channel make a noticeable difference?

it probaby wouldn't be noticable. You ears will ring and want to bleed before you hit all 4 channels at 14 watts inside a cab.

If you want sound quality go with the Pioneer, or an Alpine. I had four or five Kenwoods and the sound quality is night and day.
[/SIGPIC]07 Silverado LS factory 20's, spray in bedliner, in-bed cargo managment system, matching tint on front windows, K&N CAI, and Hypertech Max Engery Tuner and yet even more mods to come.

I really like my kenwood headunit the sound quality was unbleivable over the stock.

Thanks for the input guys!
Yes, I do plan on upgrading the whole system. I won't have the money for a while, but it's on my wish list. Some day....some day...

If its sound quality that you want, run with Eclipse. I have the cd7100 model and the sound quality is amazing with no separate eq at all. Plus the security on them is tight. They are pricey, but if you go to their website and see one you like, chances are you can find them on eBay! Trust me when I say that no other head unit mentioned in this thread can match up with an Eclipse!
Pros
Even if the HU is stolen with the face still on it, if the esn is on, the thief cannot activate the HU!
Comes with a microphone so you can record and optimize your speaker set up sound.
Has navigation you can preload onto the supplied USB stick so you can get from point a to point b with poi's along the way.
iPod, Satellite, Bluetooth and HD Radio ready.
Cons
PRICE!
Other than that, give them a look see. You will not be disappointed!

look for kenwood excelon models they are the best radio i have ever had. If you looking to upgrade the entire system then kenwood or clarion are good places to start. alpine make good radios, but there sound features really dont cut it for me that is, and the pre out voltage is also to low. My kenwood excelon radio does everything any other radio does. Sat ready, usb, can get ipod adapter, bluetooth, aux port built in, hd radio ready, it actually have one of those gryometers in it.
