Hi forum members: The radio in my 99 Suburban cuts-out frequently when I hit a bump or turn sharply. The radio remains on, the controls work and the display is lit but there is no sound coming out of any of the speakers. If I hit another bump the sound may return but its not very consistent. The radio is the original Delco with the CD unit mounted below it in the dash. There are 2 speakers in the front door, 1 in each of the back side doors, and 1 above each of the rear doors.
From what I've read these radios have a cut-out feature that disables the sound if it detects a short in any of the speaker wires. Seems like an odd feature but then I never stop marvelling at the creative minds in Detroit. (is this true?)
Anyone have any details about this system? Is there a separate amp that runs the rear speakers? Is there a common wire location that shorts out?
Thx - Carmental

Pull the radio out and check that the plugs in the back of the radio are still well seated. Sounds to me like maybe the plug for the speakers has come loose? If I remember correctly I think there's a seperate plug for the speakers - might be your problem. Easy as pie to pull the stereo. The dash trim just pulls off and then it's a matter of pulling the stereo.

Check all your plugs, even if you have to pull off your door panels. While you have them off, you might want to just go ahead and put in some good after market speakers if the excursions on the OEM speakers are cracked or dry-rotted.

Thanks for the quick reply guys.
Pulled the radio and the CD out, all the connections are tight and secure. Sounds like I don't have alot of options short (no pun intended) of going speaker to speaker and performing a continuity test on the wires.
Do I need to pull the door panels off to get to the speakers on the old 'Burb?
Thx - Carmental

Yep, those panels are comin off
