just letting every one know what i'm doing next to my burb. it's 96 and it was used as a fire truck so doors opened alot. it really needs them. I will tell you how it goes. just ordered them today.

I've done this job before...if you don't have a door support stand, then my advice to you is this:Either get a friend to help you, or if you have a tree with strong banches in your yard drive your burban under the tree, and throw a rope around the lowest appropriate branch, then use that to support your door. Might sound weird, but you'll need the support to help with lining up the door hinges once you're ready to pop the pins back in.



I had a friend do this with an old 1973 Blazer that he had. Took the doors and the top off every spring and we would have to put them back on in the fall. It really does take two people to get it done quickly.

there is a $10 tool you might want to pick up to make the job a whole lot easier. it compresses the spring for removal, you leave the spring in the tool until ready to put it back in then just release the spring in place. make life a lot easier. available at most auto parts stores for around $10 and worth it in just the saveings on cussing.

Hey guys, I am getting ready to do this on the barn doors on my truck, has anybody done this one yet? There isn't a spring so it should be a little easier than the ones up front.
Any tips would be appreciated.

changing pins on barn doors was a pain in the ass, at least for me. tried to knock them out but did nothing but agrivate myself, and hit my thumb. then cut pin with die grinder, heated hinge with a welding torch with a friend as he knocked them out with hammer and punch, they do make a tool to remove these pins with but after talking to a buddy at a body shop found the way i did it is how they normally do it. how ever you do it its a pain. but i only had to replace passenger side door hinges. it did only take 45 min. tho with the torches, spent 15 min beating on the pins without torches to no good.

I would say that you could fabricate a pin removal tool from a c-clamp. Drill a hole in the anvil end of the c-clamp to allow the pin to slip through, and you may have to grind the threads off the pin of the c-clamp to allow it to slide into the hole of the hinge. Just a thought...I'm not near my burban to look at the hinge, so I cannot disprove my theory just yet. But I'd say it would be worth the cost of a wasted c-clamp if it worked.
