This has been bugging me since I joined this forum. Why is it that when someone new asks a question he gets 10 "Welcome to the site" replies and not one of those 10 people answer his question?
What am I missing?

shorthand, it's just easier ... technically, they should be asking the questions in the specific tech area where the Q&A stuff goes on like the tech forums or the vehicle forums, people are in the mindset to answer questions there.

Two possible reasons. In the post he says "i just joined" and/or he's posting in the member's introduction section.
If it's not in the member introduction I don't normally say anything if I can't answer the question(s).

Normally I would try to answer the question too. But I have noticed that this kind of sets the stage for the forum to be used in the wrong way. Then the introduction is riddled with welcomes ands technical info. It becomes one big rambling post and the asker has to search through the replies to find the answer. If the question is in the right forum then all the replies are specific to the problem. It makes it much more neat and simple.

a couple other forums i use have a sticky at the top...newbies check in here.and they dont allow multiple" hi i just joined threads".all newbies must check in there.maybe you could go that route.i always look at todays posts to see anything new so i dont miss anything.i know there is one here but maybe we can enforce it?![]()

If there's an actual introduction and a question- If I know the answer I'll welcome them and answer the question. If I don't know the answer I'll simply welcome them.
If there's no actual introduction and it's just a question- I move the post to the section it should be in.
