Default CAI Units vs Drop in Filter

Any advice on the difference between CAI units and drop in K&N filter? Are they worth the extra money and does anyone have any dyno, performance, MPG results to support these? Also, it seems to me that many of the CAI units just take air from the engine compartment which defeats their purpose they would suck in hot engine air as opposed to cold air like stock boxes do which take air from the grill. I was looking at this uint Vararam VR-6 unit anyone know anything about it?

I found this info on Vararam site dyno results. http://www.vararam.com/vr6.html

    Thanks!

There are two CAI that I know of that you can add an additional 'scoop' that attaches underneath the air box and the mouth sits just below the front valence. The CAI I have is from Gale Banks, and even though the website says you cannot purchase the additional air scoop, you can. Just call them.

The other is by Volant (I believe).

As per dyno proof - I don't have any. I doubt you might find some because most people will stack CAI & Exhaust. As for MPG proof - I don't have any as of yet.

That is correct, Volant has a ram air tube that attachs to the bottom of the intake box. I added my CAI and CatBack at the same time so I cant give you personal performance increase #s on one or the other but with the combination of both, my truck picked up performance wise everywhere. I will be adding the ram air scoop soon so I will be able to tell you if that helped or not.

You dont need to buy an expensive cold air intake, on some other forums theres people who had made theres out products from home depot and under 20 buks.

The only thing thats restrictive is your Tube, a drop in filter will work just as good as a cone filter as long you upgrade the tube.
