Default Odds of this dude selling this TV?

What does everyone think they would give this dude for this old tube TV? I'd give him about fifteen cents. Do some people really not have a clue what things are worth anymore?

I bought this for $900 several years ago and I'm selling it for $200 OBO. It was fried when my house was hit by lightning from the recent storm. I'm not sure if it's fixable but I will check and update this page.

he was probably touching the TV when his house was struck, thus causing him to get a little fried too. The sad part is there is probably some idiot out there that will pay $200 dollars for it.

I posted an Open Letter on craigslist to people who are selling old TVs. -- Vote it best of craigslist please.

Hey you, yeah you, the guy selling his old tube or projection TV. Can we chat? I want to introduce you to a couple of my friends.

First meet my friend Chuck Obsolescence. He's the guy who tells me that your stuff is out of date and not worth even 10% of what you paid for it 5 years ago. You probably don't even have HDMI.

Next, you should get to know one of the best guys, he goes by the nickname "The Economy is in the toilet, so people are selling stuff cheap to just get cash." He brings a spirit of truth to the party and makes people fell impulsive.

Just a quick phone call away is my pal Johnny Walmart. I called him up and he's selling a brand new 50" PLAMSA TV for $898, and 40" LCDs for $475. That makes me wonder who's smoking crack when they're trying to sell a 10 year old 32" Sony WEGA TUBE TV for $500 or a massive upright-piano-sized rear-projection set for $600. Those bulbs only last so long, it might not even make the trip home without breaking.

Please note that old TVs should be kept in the $50 to $100 range. If they're not working, NO ONE will pay $200 and then another $400 to try to fix it, I'll come haul it away for $200 if you want though. The cost of brand-new TVs gets lower and lower everyday, eventually a good 40" LCD will be like $350 new and a used one will be like $125.

Thanks, I'm glad we had this chat.

T.V.'s are throw away any more, I don't know anyone who actually calls the service man out to the house once the warranty is up on one. I am the same way with computers, if they break with no warranty I throw them out and go buy another one. My lap top just broke last week, and I went to Wal-Mart and bought a brand new Dell for $400, so if I get 2 years out of it I will be happy. I bet you $20 Steve, that guy WILL get an offer on that TV for parts. Maybe someone needs a new glass screen or the plastic casing, I have seen crazier things.

There are dozens and dozens of these things being sold each week in every major city. Some people get a new flat panel and just get rid of their old set for $50 and it's gone. Some are trying to sell them as if they were the latest and greatest things.

He'd probably make more money if he parted it out to multiple people instead of selling the whole broken thing to one person...there are plenty of people out there looking for antique stuff or wanting to repair "antique" stuff... someday this tv will be antique... and someone somewhere will be willing to use it to fix one they already have...... just you watch... in 10 years when we're watching antiques road show. we'll see that little 36" JVC tube tv... and they'll probably get $200 for it then :D
