Hi, have a 97 S-10 with a 4.3 150k. This past winter ran off the road and hit a set of concrete steps, hard enough to knock the tire off the rim. Changed the tire, but on the way home it started running very poorly. I ended up having it towed back. I haven't done much with it (as I had an extra vehicle). Anyhow, as I have recently delved back into it, I notice it squeals a bit, even removing the serpentine belt it still squeals and I can hear tapping and runs very poorly. I do not the alernator isn't working but even with a full battery and the belt removed it still squeals. I am thinking it may be a vacuum issue but haven't located it if it is. At the time I had tried to shift it into 4 wheel. The indicator lit, but it didn't seem as though it actually engaged. Still the case.
Thoughts?
It looks like you need to remove the skid plate and crawl under your truck to find the noise.

Hopping for some personal experience, before pulling it all apart. Obviously, nothing is rubbing so it is likely something internal, but perhaps someone else has experienced similar with some fashion of resolution?
check your crank position sensor you might have knocked it hard enough to loosen the reluctor ring loose it sets behind your timing cover best thing to do is just unplug the sensor then take the bolt out and see if theres any scratches or a hole in it if so then you gotta get a new reluctor ring and sensor put in simple to fix just time consuming and need a harmonic ballancer puller/installer
Thanks, I will take a look at that, although I have now noticed some metal shavings in the oil as well. This motor may be going down fast. I will let you know what I find this weekend.

I would start checking for damage underneath first, especially to the oil pan.

I had done a visual inspection and the oil pan was intact. The gauge (on the dash) is showing good oil pressure. I didn't get a chance to take a look at the CPS yet though. I will try to get to that this week as well.
