My 04 Silverado almost killed me today. We had some rain, and I was trying to pull out into traffic (50mph zone). I had to get going fast, started to pull out, all the rear tires did was spin. Luckily I have good brakes and was able to stop without the nose of the truck being in traffic.
I am sick of my 2wd truck. I love it, but anytime it rains or snows, it's not fun. In Indiana, that is more than half the year.
So I want to upgrade. I am looking at either the 09 Silverado or Sierra and was wondering if anyone has any advice or can give opinions on how well they like their new truck. I am looking into the 4wd Crew Cab, LTZ models.
Also if anyone has gone from the 03 - 07 models to the new body style, I would like to know if they like it better or worse, or about the same.
Thanks,
Steve

Im not an expert but what you described sounds like your back tires are worn out and have no thread left on them. I would reccomend you rotate the newer ones in the front to the rear first then see what happens.

the siverado and sierra are both basicly the same truck, with minor differences in appearance. so the choice is all up to you on which one you want. if you get the denali sierra, you could get the 6.0 or 6.2l v8 with awd
nope, my truck does the same thing on wet roads, heck i even bought new tires for it on a rainy day, and when the got on, i went to pull out on traffic about the same situation as him, and had the same problem.
I have a set of tires I use in the Summer, which I have on 20" wheels that have great grip when dry and less than 3K miles. I have another set on the factory wheels that are supposed to be excellent in Snow / Rain (Michelin), and have less than 10K miles on them. I still have the same problem.
I can throw 400 lbs of sand in the back, and it helps with traction, but then I kill my mpg.

I bought a new 09 Sierra and I love it. The only real difference between the Sierra and Silverado as 5speedsilverado said are in appearance. I personally like the round fog lights instead of square.
I was going to get the Denali but the idea of paying for gas for full time awd did not appeal to me.
Sorry to hear about your 04 Silverado. Sounds like it is just to light in the back? I know where I live there is ice like 8 months of the year and everyone with trucks here puts something heavy in the bed of their trucks. Usually sandbags. Gives them better traction because of the weight. You may consider trying to put some weight in the bed before giving up on it? I know sand bags are unappealing but you may be able to find something better.
Good luck on the decision!

If I lived in AZ, I probably wouldn't complain too much. I would just keep in in the garage during the 2 days of rain every year. Just kidding. Its just a PITA sometimes, plus I was close to getting T-boned!

Sorry started typing before you posted. lol Ya mpg go downhill once you throw something heavy in there.
He is right it is virtually the same truck but the GMC has more flash to it. The Chevy has an auto option on the gear selector that is similar to that of awd, it is rear wheel drive with the front wheels engaged when needed. If you are looking to save some money go for the Chevy, if money makes no difference the GMC Denali is much nicer to look at in stock form IMO. Good luck, either way you'll be happy![]()
