    Justifications

    The stock intake system is too small for the 7.4L or even the 5.7L at full throttle and is a major constriction at most throttle settings in my opinion. If another supply line can be added without changing the existing, there will be two intake supply systems. All of this is in front of the air filter element, so it really doesn’t affect the smog system, that I know of. I decided to design a system to supplement the stock system and found all the materials at HomeDepot in the plumbing section (drainage, gutters and water meter boxes). Really got the idea after seeing a K&N system in a mag and thought I could do better and for less. This really needs to have the other end's restriction reduced too (change to dual exhaust).

    If you decide to do this, be very, very aware of the puddles you drive through! I'm all for improving the air intake on any car, but not at the risk of sucking water up into my engine and bending rods and such. Now granted, These trucks do sit higher than the Mustangs, Hondas, and Acuras that you typically see this sort of mod on, but it could (if the puddle were deep enough, or if it is raining hard enough) do damage to your truck.

    This looks interesting. I have thought about this before but have decided against it for whatever reason. The author of this article did this some time ago, I wonder what his long-term findings were?

    I have seen this sort of thing come out of the factory even on some of the 5.0 HO Ford engines in the 80's. I've known people that have had them and things like slugde in the oil pan and bent rods were fairly common after 80k.

    Idea sounds good in theory but ... man that looks a little "ghetto" to me. Not to be finicky but there has to be a way to make that look better. Maybe getting an functional intake hood, I know its a little more money but some things are just worth it

    LOL thats funny but true!

    Hey on your burb did you change out the front lights?

    I just did the bumper lights and want to do the headlights but am unsure about how hard it is.

    Its not to bad, I changed out the turn signals and the lower light unit on mine. If have some time its really not bad, just don't try to rush through it.

    Flipping your air cleaning cover over works ok, but ideally you would want to be drawing in cool air, for optimal Hp. When the engine is hot, and the air cleaner cover is flipped, you're not really any better off than when you're using the stock intake with the cover on properly. Really the best way to go is the functional hood scoop, like Mike said, it's more expensive, but worth it in the end. However when you stomp on it, with the cover flipped!!! :twisted: :twisted:
