Default More Keyless entry info and questions [Expired Topic]

I know I know I seem obsessed with these damn little black dangles from the key chain now LOL!

But on to what I found out and what I have questions on

I have found that in 96 for suburban there are two different remotes listed with different part numbers but they seem to be used interchangeably.

    P/N: 15731442 and P/N: 15725423

They look the same in the pics and are said to work, now that being said I have tried the P/N: 15731442 and its does work.

They also share the same FCC ID number ABO0104T which when I looked it up on the FCC web site says

    General Motors
    Building 3044 W. Grand Blvd,
    MC 482-112-257
    Detroit MI
    United States 48202
    Lower Upper
    Frequency Frequency
    ABO0104T Original Equipment 06/11/1992 315.0 315.0

Ok you bored yet? If not follow along I'm getting to a point

There is also remotes listed with other GM PN: but the same FCC ID there is a oldsmobile one that looks just like the above just has a Olds Logo on it.

    Now the questions

If they are the same Freq what makes them unique to one vehicle could you take these other remotes and program them to your vehicle?

The reason is some of the others are cheaper and more abundant and might be alternative for folks who need a replacement.

    So any ideas?

Hmm, is one the #1 and one the #2 remote? I think they lock you out from having more than 2, but I could be wrong on that. A lot of companies will produce an official part and then sell licenses for someone else to reproduce that same part cheaper. Maybe related to that too?

Hmmm not sure I have programmed 2 of the same # to mine with no issues and both units are GM so I dunno about the makers.

I did not know about the 2 units per vehicle I had heard 4 but cannot seem to find reference to more than 2.

Thanks again Steve for the info you are the reason I'm obsessed LOL!

Maybe it's 4. I remember reading that they block it so that there can only be a limited number .... of course, maybe I'm thinking of my garage door opener which I just had to buy a new opener for???
