    Default Quick opinion on towing

    Quick question

How much is too much for the bumper tow ball? What Im looking at is a small utility trailer with a couple of book shelves and I think that would be fine.
Friend thinks I should use the other truck with the factory hitch

Also have heard never tow in OD but also have heard is under so many pounds that is was ok

    So what are the opinions?

    Thanks!

Oh side note havent been able to get on much have been training a new employee and overall slammed but I havent forgot about you guys and gals to

That bumper hitch all depends on the bumper. There's a big difference between a chrome stock bumper and a Barden style HD bumper.
It's perfectly OK to tow in OD. Where you get into trouble is when towing up hills. When towing up hill keep it in Drive. What happens is when in overdrive going up hill your foot is buried into the gas pedal enough to unlock the torque converter. An unlocked torque converter in OD causes the fluid to overheat very rapidly. This is the only reason not to tow in OD. By the same token if you are overloaded on flat ground and or under powered, take it out of OD unless you can maintain lock up in your torque converter.

I've pulled a 16 footer with 4 atv's all weighting 600 plus with my dads 86 chevy no class 3 hitch just bumper and ball ! My buddy has a 95 ford blah but any ways he hauls his tractor short trips 30/45 miles just using his bumper. Funny thing is when he loads the tractor the rear of his truck leaves the ground. Lol

I have a factory chrome bumper but it does have some markings on weights for towing on there I think. I have towed a trailer with a fridge with no issue on my old one but not the replacement LOL

The Yukon has the factory hitch with towing package so I guess I will use it but I like driving the suburban better LOL

Thanks guys for all the input!

My dad loaded our 30hp John Deere tractor, which is also 4x4, with front end loader, and rear box blade onto out 16ft trailer. He hooked that up to a 95 reg. cab long bed with the V-6 onto the bumper. Towed it about 20-25 miles no problem.
