    Default 305/350 swap, couple questions.

Well I just want to plan ahead for when/if my 2.8 kicks the bucket, or I get a lump some of money and feel like blowing it haha.

I wondering how involved a 305/350 swap is in these trucks. I have a 1992 2.8 2wd sonoma reg cab short box. What all would I need? All new wiring? need to find a rebuilt motor and tranny I would take it, new rearend and new driveshaft?

How much do you think I can have it done for?

Well I know I have researched this quite a bit for my 2001 S-10,and I actually found that Stylin Concepts has the actual SBC motor swap kits for sale. New engine mounts and transmission mounts, including a nice how-to book with a list of parts that you will need to make it work. I actually talked to a guyout at Norwalk raceway that had a 350 in a 2004 S-10, and he was running a Ford 9" rear end in his. I picked up one of those already, just the center section. Painless Wiring has a complete harness upgrade for the S-10 for this purpose, a SBC swap has been done a lot in these little trucks. I priced everything BRAND NEW for my truck, and it was around $10,000 for everything. Powertrain, driveshaft, rear end, new electronics but I am sure you could go a lot cheaper with a used motor and stuff.

It can be done for a couple grand. The swap parts are cheapest at summit or jegs. TransDapt makes the conversion mounts to go from your 2.8 mounts to a small block. You can get hedman shorty headers for under $200, and Jegs makes a dual exhaust kit to go with them for $245. You don't need a new rear end, the 7 5/8" in yours will survive just fine unless you run sticky tires and launch hard. You'll probably need to get your driveshaft shortened, any drivetrain shop should be able to do it for under $100, and they will tell you exactly where to measure from. As for wiring, that depends on what you do as far as fuel system goes. If you go carbed, it's easy. If you keep it TBI, you'll need to change a few things... like computer, electronic spark control, computer controlled distributor. If you use something like tuned port injection, I'd recommend the TPI swap book at jagsthatrun.com. You can do it all yourself, I wouldn't recommend spending hundreds on an aftermarket wiring harness. It's just not worth it, and either way you're going to have to do some custom wiring. All the info is available online, MANY people have done the same swap as you. I can recommend an excellent forum, but you'll have to email me... I don't want to advertise another site on this one. Hope this stuff helps!
