I know that if the dealer installs duals they want you to drop the spare and sell you the repair kit. Tire inflator, etc

    Cool Spare tire

I would leave the spare mounted under truck if you have a small space between the exhaust and spare i would wrap the exhaust with a heat sheild wrap you can buy from Jegs or Summit.

I was thinking about doing that.. like some header wrap or something similar.

I've had two of those mechanism's get stuck in the up position with the tire on! No way to get it off that I could see. The AAA guy tried in vain to get it down. My mechanic said he didn't want to mess with it, so I took it to the dealer who replaced the entire mechanism. Any tire guys out there know how to release that when the tire is in the way?

The owners manual in my '07 classic gives instructions on how to release it. Check your manual.
