Default Removing Z71 package plastic trim

I have a 2005 Z71, black. I actually prefer the look of a basic burb. Can I remove the gray plastic bits along the rockers without leaving holes or anthying ugly? I just want the black plastic "flares" left behind. Eventually, I'd like to replace the step bars with the flat step from the base burb. CAn that be done?

I'd be willing to bet that all that trim you're wanting to remove is held on with nothing more than double sided tape, and can just be carefully pried off. Then all ya have to do is remove all the tape/residue. Not hard, just time consuming. Some Goo Gone or a rubber eraser type wheel will clean all that up too.
