Default step bar install gone bad

Helped my son install step bars on his 2008 Sierra extended cab, they mount by removing the cab mount bolts and reinstalling them through the step bar mounts. Ever since the install the cab squeeks and creeks like a 50 year old truck, worse when cab is in a flex situation (turning, going uphill from level, etc.) We have retightened the bolts 3 times, gets a little better then comes back. Anybody else have this problem? Can these bolts be too tight? HELP
