I'm wanting to get some new tires on this truck I just bought sometime in the near future. It has the stock 16x6.5 alloy rims. I'm wanting to put on LT285/75R16/E BFG All-Terrain T/A KO's. However, the 285 isn't supposed to go on the 6.5" rim. I have read on some other site of people still putting them on stock rims and not having a problem, but they weren't always talking on GM trucks. Has anyone here ever run 285s on their stock rims? And if so, what was your experience?

Yes sir! Same rims I have on mine. Sounds like thats what I'm gonna get then. I still have some miles I can put on the ones on there now. But I wanted those BFGs and also to add about an inch on height with that 285/75 tire

BFGs website has a tire/wheel chart.
Well thats why I was asking because BFG's website says that tire is supposed to be for a rim width of 7.5" to 9" But I've been hearing of people running them on the stock 6.5" rim so I wanted to see if anyone has had any problems doing that. Freddie cleared that up for me tho.

Well I know you already have your answer, but here is my experience with bigger tires and factory rims. I have a 2001 S-10 that I put the BFG's on, and they are 2" larger overall size and they fit nicely. The actual outside of the tire slightly within millimeters hangs over the edge of the rim, now the guy warned me about it when they were mounted but said they should be fine. I am on my 35,000 mile on these tires, and I have never had a problem with them. I would say that you will be fine, and as a matter of fact I am going to put the same setup as you are doing also on my Silverado. Make sure to update us with the fit and trim, thanks!http://www.gmtruckclub.com/forum/att...1&d=1247194594

Well thank you very much for your reply. Never hurts to get more info, just reassurance.

Great to hear! I can probably get another 10,000 miles on these Nitto Terra Grapplers. But I've always camped with Michelin or BF Goodrich. So before the year is out I'm definitely gonna put on those BFG AT 285s. I might even try and put em on before I have to head up for college in the fall. If I don't get em by then, then I'll just ask my parents for them for Christmas. That'll save me $800 to $1000 to put towards other mods!![]()
