Default Changes coming to the site

Due to the issues that we're having with the current web host, I have plans to move the entire site over to a new host in the next 1-2 weeks. Hopefully I can get most of this work done on Saturday morning and evenings throughout the week. When it comes time to "move over", I'd like to make the switch as painless as possible.

Let me know if you have any questions.

OH, but you should expect a new look and feel to the site. The same information, but a new interface with more options and a better method to find out what's going on.

Dam more changes, hell I get all messed up every time you change something.

Not a real computer geek, hell I even hate that they have now put the computer in our beloved Burbans.

Well I suppose we have to change with the times.

I’m ready for it, go Steve.

I just hope you don’t change it to much, I may have to get help just to sign on.

No, some of the changes you'll not see, like changing to a faster and more relaiable web host. That's just behind the scenes. However, there are new and more feature rich (robust is the new buzz word) message forum systems that can help the site to grow faster.

For example, right now I'll bet that 90% of the regulars on this site only look at the new messages that are posted on the front entry page, you know, the right-hand column. It keeps the number of new posts artifically low becuase there can really only be ten topics/threads moving at any one time. Other systems make it much easier to see what's going on in any given day, week, month or whatever timeframe you set.

Anyhow, the content will be the same, it will just be easier to communicate and easier to find what content is currently being added to.

Oops. You're right about just looking at the latest forum entries on the home page. Because of that, I posted a new message under the wrong forum (tire wear under this one). Is it possible to move the posting to the correct forum?

That's another issue, not all of the admin features are working properly. :-( I'll see what I can do.

Yeah, that's my point. This forum should have 500+ new messages each DAY, not each month. Moving to a better forum structure should help accommodate that. Right now, only 10 messages are being responded to each day at the most.

I have secured some web space on a different web host ... decided to go with GoDaddy. Although bandwidth is not going to be a problem, I hope that we're not going to use too much processor space or memory on the new server, so that it bogs down. Sometime in the next 12 months we'll probably have to move to a dedicated server.

Anyhow, I will be moving over to the new server in the next week, so the site may be down for a day at the most if I have issues with getting the databases migrated over.

I have begun the time-consuming task of moving from one web-host to another. During one phase of this task, I only have FTP transfer capabilities, so it's VERY slow considering the amount of data that exists on here.

Once the files are transferred, the next step is fairly easy. I just have to download/upload the database from one host to the other. Then I switch over the URLs to look from one host to the new one. Then we're live on the new host. Hopefully I can have this done by this week.

A search button would be nice so we can look for subjects.
