I have been changing my own oil for sometime now and am not sure what I should be greasing on the chassis that a dealer would be doing if I took it in for an oil change. Can anyone offer any insight on what zerts or areas I should be lubricating every 3,000 miles? Thanks in advance!

I(and by I i mean my family) have an industrial parts business (bearings, belts, gears, chains, sprockets, pulley's, Hydraulic hose, etc) ... I can't answer "where" on the truck you should be greasing i can only tell you that if you're greasing certain bearing housing... not to grease it too much... Many people make the mistake of pumping grease into a bearing housing until they see grease ooze out of the crevasse's/joints... DO NOT do this. 1-2 pumps of a grease gun is more than suffice in some areas. If it is over-greased, dirt sticks to the grease that has oozed out and finds its way inside the moving parts and eventually causing premature wear...

My 97 K2500 and 95 Tahoe have the same eleven fittings, plus the front driveshaft slip yoke. Upper and lower ball joints, both sides. Outer and inner tie rod ends, both sides. Pitman arm at center link, idler arm at center link and idler arm shaft at frame mount.
If your U-joints have grease fittings, you should do them if you can. I hate u-joints with grease fittings, they never last for me.
When you hear hoofbeats, look for horses not zebras.
When I got my new/used 1500 I thought my front end needed lubing. Steering column was rattling when turning. I found all the zerks and lubed everything (tip - take the front wheels off) and still rattling. I'd also recommend a Chilton's manual.
