tranny is a nv3500 with the 4.3, you should do a 4.8 or 5.3 swap, if you have to do all that

my buddy was telling me about the 3400 out of a grandam and how it would bolt almost right up with just a few minor wire extentions , what do you guys think of those?

I believe the 3400 in a grand am is an overhead cam, which would mean a lot more than a few wires being extended. If you want a bigger motor but also want to keep things basic, just get a 3.4 out of an early to mid 90's camaro or firebird. Your intake and fuel injection will bolt right on, and your computer will run it just fine. It's a direct swap... pull out the 2.8, bolt all your accessories and top end on the 3.4, and put it in.
If you have some cash to play with, GM sells it as a crate motor. It's meant to be a direct swap for your 2.8, and is 40hp more. Throw some headers and a few other bolt ons at it, and you're making the power of a 4.3 without any of the hassle!
