GM High Performance
... that division is on hold indefinitely. Shame. They were working on the Z28, had an awesome 4 banger for the Cobalt, some kick ass crate motors, and a whole lot more going on. Until GM can prove they can escape bankruptcy and return to profitability there won't be much HP engineering going on.
I recently instructed for an HPDE for Corvette owners sponsored by the National Corvette Museum and GM. They sent 5 new Vettes up. The new Grand Sports this year. Last year they sent up ZR1s. I instructed one of the GM engineers in a GS. Not bad but the C6 makes you feel more removed from the road. It will supposedly end up as the base for the T1 Vette in SCCA racing. So they are still pushing ahead with performance and the Corvette. The HP division all got reassigned. The engineers were telling me that a lot got tabled for now. But they are most certainly not giving up on bringing that division back. Even the Corvette engineers know their future is questionable right now.
Government Motors will need to build cars based on the new gas mileage average first to appease the feds and make profits. Then they can resonsider the performance side.
