Thread: amps wattage

    Lightbulb amps wattage

    when i order my subs one of them was 600 watts rms and where i had two come in it would be 1200 watts rms so when i ordeer my d class sub should i go of a max of 1200 watts or could i go higher

    subs are usally rated for there max capacity I wouildnt go anything above that unless you really like that burnt electrical smell in your cab.

    I know if your runing a good subs like fi it can handle way more than what rated.

    The speakers are rated independantly - each can only handle 600 rms - do not add them together.

    The RMS figure is really meaningless - its an often exagerrated figure. Depending on the brand of sub/speaker I would only get an amp that can deliver no more than 600 watt to each sub continous power.

    And remember more watts does not always mean louder.

    thanks im not sure what subs to get anymore i know the box for my truck the depth cant be no more then 6.5" deep and the magnet cant be no more then 6.25" in diameter i was looking at either the jl audio thin or the mtx thin anyone know if these subs are good or should i go with something else

    I would go off the cubic feet of the box per chamber or if it just single. And look what is recommeneded for the sub. Like i know my jl 12 w3 is 1 cub so that is what i have. So if you get a sub with a reccommendation for a box that it is bigger then the cubic of the box then it will not sound good.


    To make it sound good it is all in the box and 3/4 of the rated rms to the amp.

    I'd get the JL audio thin. Its got great power, I heard it at car shop. I have 2 10" W0's and there great. I dont think i'd get anything besides JL.

    the the box is .6 cu.ft for each sub and it holds two will this work

    here is the diamension of the box for the truck

    MDF construction (3/4" and 5/8")
    Air Space: .6 cu.ft. per chamber sealed
    Mounting Depth: 6.5"
    Clearance: 1.75" between floor and mounting surface
    Finish: Your choice of carpet
    Fits: Two 10s or Two 12s up to 6.5" deep
    (magnets must be no more than 6.25" in diameter)

    i have to 10" mtx subs and there pretty good i just stuffed the boxes with cotton and now they really bang. but i went for the low end power of my subs and they are still loud
