I have an 05 2500 HD I have the digital temp read out with the "auto" setting there is a separate temp dial on each side to control the temperature for driver/passenger separately (picture probably would have been easier) anyways the when I try to turn on the AC the display reads 60 degrees with the little snow flake icon but the air coming out is 90 degrees plus! the first time it happened I was able to shut the truck off and when I started it, the ac worked again. today I tried the same thing and the ac came on for a second and then switched to hot air. I'm sure there is a switch or temp gauge broken. has anyone else encountered this and how do I fix it?

Sounds like you have something more serious. I'd get the pressure checked to make sure you have enough freon. There is a high and low pressure cutoff switch that may be turning the air off.

Looking for a 1990's Miata for an engine swap
Things to try first...
Reread the owner's manual "climate control section" to be sure all the controls are set as they should be.
Next try "recalibrating the system"...
Turn the ignition off.
Remove the HVAC/ECAS fuse for 30 seconds, then replace it.
Start your vehicle.
Do not touch any buttons or switches for 1 minute. (A/C will recalibrate itself.)
If that does not work, then you would need a GM Factory Service Manual set for your year/model vehicle. This would give complete troubleshooting instructions for this problem as well as complete part replacement instructions. Order this from helminc.com or a GM dealer.
Or take your vehicle to a GM dealer for service.
