    Default starting issues [Expired Topic]

On my 2000 Yukon, I just noticed that when I get in to start it cold she fires right up. If I get in to start it after I have driven some where and it sits for a few minutes the first time you crank the ignition it just spins, nothing abnormal but it doesn't actually start, the second time it fires right up. If I expect it to happen and just turn the key enough to crank it and then let off and then try a second time to start it it will fire right up. I had a buddy say he had a similar problem with his 03 GM (H2) and he had the fuel pressure regulator replaced and it went away but I had a local shop check this truck out on Thursday after I bought it and he said the Fuel Pressure Regulator was ok. ...... I am beginning to wonder if he actually checked it.

    Anybody have any ideas?

you can do one very simple check on the regulator by pulling off the vacuum hose, if there is fuel in the hose, the regulator is bad. If it is dry you will need a fuel pressure gauge to find out if it is bad. With the gauge connected your fuel pressure shopuld be about 55-60 psi, running. if you remove the vacuum hose with the gauge connected and the engine running fuel pressure should climb, applying vacuum with a vacuum pump to the regulator should make pressure drop. If pressures are doing what they are supposed to, I would look somewhere else. I have found several regulators leaking on the 99 and up trucks as well as 00 and up utilities.
