security lock system

Hello everyone,

I recently bought a 2001 Silverado 1500. It has a security lock system installed, but it didn't come with a remote. I went to the dealer and was told that it could be one of two different types. He said that I would have to look at the security box itself to find out what number was on it before they could program another remote. Could anyone tell me where I can find this "box" and how I can get to it?

What is the GM name for this system?

Theft deterrent?
Vehicle Theft Deterrent?
Content Theft Deterrent?

And *specifically* what is the name of the electronic module or device you are looking for?

BCM - Body Control Module?
Key Lock Cylinder?

(There can be 25 to 80 different electronic modules on a modern vehicle...)
