    Cool lost 1st & 2nd gear on collum shifter linkage on my 98' tahoe

    going down my steep driveway i tried to downshift into 1st. but,it felt like the stops for the gear had disappeared. the indicator would only go to 3rd, and seemed to have lost the 1st & 2nd ? the shifter seemed to be loose and reached as far down as it could go. looking under the trans. and moving the shifting arm i was able to click into 1st & 2nd, but the linkage between the steering collum and the trans. could not.any ideas?

    There is a plastic bushing in the mounting bracket for the cross shaft. These bushings will break or wear out.
