Default Low temp gauge [Expired Topic]

Hey guys I got a 93 2500 burb with a 5.7 350 The temp gauge is reading very low and I know its not that low. What would you check first? Gauge? sensor? Is there a way to test either of these? or just replace sensor then go from there?
Another question is this the dash lights in the guage cluster it looks like there is a light out? The top half of the cluster is lit up well the bottom half is dark. Anyone ever replace these bulbs? Need to know how to do this too.
Thanks in advance for your help.

I've got a 93 burb too. (1500) I don't have a temp problem, but awhile back when I had a leaky radiator and the gauge registered low when it didn't have any contact with the coolant. So check to make sure your coolant is topped off, then I'd start with the sender, since it is the easiest to get to.

Stop by your local department store.

Pick up a candy thermometer, they even come in digital now.

Set the thermometer right on the heater hose until it stops going up. That will give you the real temp. of the engine.

From there you will know if the thermostat in the dash is reading right.

Then if it is you need to check fluid levels, all not just antifreeze. Check oil, trans. fluid to.

There is a way to check the sensors, I just can’t remember how right at the moment. Someone else will remember here I’m sure if not I will look it up tonight.
