Arrow Which Transmission would you choose?

I have a 1991 GMC K2500 long-wheel-base 5.7 V8. I was just having some tranny problems, which I think I have fixed, and it got me to thinking. If for some reason I have more problems and I choose to just get a used transmission, which one would be best. It has a THM 700r4 in it but if I could get a good price on the 400/3L80, would that be a good/bad choice. I guess my question is: what are the pros and cons of each one, the THM 700R4/4L60 and the THM 400/3L80? Let the games begin. PS: Will a 4L60E work in my truck? I was just wondering. Thanks.

You best stay with the 700. Lower 1st gear than the 400 and overdrive which gives you a few more miles per gallon. The 400 is a good trans but the 700 can be built to last in your truck. You don't want a 4L60E because you would need a computer to shift it and it's no better than the 700. If you did change to a 400 it would require a new flex plate, transfer case, drive shafts and cross member among a bunch of little odds and ends. Just a waste of good money IMO.

stick with the 700r4, built right that will take alot more abuse and last longer than the others. Also no mods to your drivetrain.
