Hey everyone I haven't been here for a while because i've been selling stuff on other forums..I have a 1998 chevy Z71 with the 5.7L. I'm not 16 yet so I don't have my license and I don't have a job but i'm getting both soon and once I get the money, i'm going to put an exhaust system on my truck. I was wondering what you guys recommend for an exhaust system. I want to keep the stock manifolds and cats. I don't know if I should take my truck to an exhaust shop and have them weld in 2 flowmaster mufflers next to eachother and then dump it after the muffler or if I should buy an exhaust system off the internet.
What do yall think I should do?
Any help is appreciated, Thanks
Nathan

The flowmaster kit I had came with a 50 series muffler and had the flowmaster "sound" but it just wasn't enough for me. I left it alone for about six months and replaced the muffler with a 40 series and got the sound that I wanted. Buy just a muffler and weld it in place. I wish I wouldn't switched to the gibson I've got now, I miss the flowmaster sound!!

Buy the muffler(s) online and take it to the exhaust shop for the pipes. Magnaflow all the way

2 inch Pro Comp Leveling Kit
3 inch Rough Country Lift
33 inch Nitto Terra Grapplers
5% Tint All Around
2 12" Kenwoods
I want true duals though. Where it's 2 seperate pipes all the way back. I'm pretty sure i'm just gonna take my truck to a local muffler shop and have them weld in 2 flowmasters and then dump it after the muffler so it doesn't cost as much. kgibson181, I like flowmaster better than Magnaflow and yes i'll buy the mufflers online if I have it done at a shop.
Will I notice a gain in performance with true duals?

you'll notice a gain in performance and economy. But Idk if u can do the true duals because of ur O2 sensor locations.

Couldn't I just have the exhaust shop cut off the exhaust right before the muffler so they can then weld on the 2 flowmaster mufflers I want? I can't remember where the O2 sensors are on my truck.

I'm pretty sure you have to y it after the cat and then do dual mufflers and pipes to avoid o2 sensor relocations or mods.

How do I do dual mufflers with a Y pipe??
1998 Silverado 5.7 4WD
Have the shop run the y tight together and then sandwich the mufflers sided by side on edge. It will work I have done it before when I worked a muffler shop in town. Take to the shop of your choice, tell them what you want and if there any good they'll make it happen. It's a pretty common request.

True duals wouldn't be possible with a "Y" pipe because of the way the pipe is constructed. You could have them cut the y pipe and weld in new pipes that would head into an "X," then out to true duals. My pipes are completely independent of each other. I should have put in an "X" pipe, but I was young and want to cut ALL the corners.
