Ok, I have read alot about these 305 heads (601) castings and I have heard great things and bad things. I got these head completely rebuilt and with 2.02 and 1.60 valves. No port work has been done. I plan on running these with stock bottom end, lunati bracket master II, edelbrock rpm performer Intake and carb 600 cfm, and long tube headers. I was curious what type of hp I can expect? I am also looking at dish pistons. What compression will I run with this setup. thanks for answering a rookies questions.
The 601 heads are so so, first off the 305 bore is too small for 2.02 intakes, dont get me wrong I did it years ago and when i put a 510 lift cam i bent my valves. I seriously doubt that you have 2.02's but the 1.94's are good for building torque. It is good that they are not ported for there isn't much room for porting before you hit a water jacket. Yes they do have a little smaller chamber than most smog motor 350 heads and probably will raise you compression ratio but dont expect much more than 9 to 1. you would be a wise man to get a set of vortech heads and you will be guaranteed 25 hp youll be lucky to gain 10hp with these heads
I am an enthuasist who is starting my life over. Keep an eye on me for i will have a lot of parts for sale in the future, let me know and i will keep an eye out for you. older trucks only 87 and older, especially 68-72.

I"m putting the 305 heads on a 350, not a 305....so bore should be fine.
