Hello
I recently got a high mileage (200K) 99 Suburban 2500 4x4 with the 7.4L engine and push button automatic 4x4 dash switch for occassional towing of a boat and travel trailer? Does this have the 4L80E trans? Which transfer case does it have? Mines is making a metallic dragging noise when driving slow and will need some attention and everyone asks which TC does it have and I don't know. Can that sound be from low fluid or is it mechanical destruction going on inside? It is in 2wd when I drive I believe becauese it doesn't bind when the steering wheel is turned to the limits when driving. Some have asked is it stuck in 4wd.
Thanks
Joe

if you have the push button WITH the auto option its a np 246 if its a push button without its most probly a 241. THE 246 is the only auto trans used in 1/2 and 3/4 ton trucks changing only the input gear for the 4l80 and smaller 4l60 the worst thing about the 246 is the front output is on clutches and you smoke em bad pulling in reverse
