I'm getting a new set of 4.10 gears put into my 05 sierra half ton. While the guy is in there i am wondering if i can simply ask him to remove the gov locker so i dont destroy the thing when it gets icy. Is this a part that can simply be removed or will i need to spend some more $$$ to simply prevent it from locking?
To do it right, you would simply replace the carrier and spider gears. It will add some to the cost, but it should only be in parts. You're already basically paying for installation with the gear set-up.

If you're going that far spend the extra bucks and get an Eaton Posi. You can't take the gov lock out without replacing it with something else anyway.
