Plan to buy a new GM vehicle on eBay? Take a look, you might be surprised.
If you haven't gone there yet, take a look at http://gm.ebay.com.
It's almost ready. The GM-specific system is live on eBay, but it is not necessarily fully populated with vehicles to sell yet. I entered zip codes all over Texas, nothing there ... then I entered the ever-famous "90210" zip code and suddently the system came alive with vehicles.
You can also search out the eBay user "yourgmdealer" and the list of items for sale. http://motors.shop.ebay.com/yourgmde...=1&_from=&_ipg=
Misconceptions and criticisms?
One of the bigest misconceptions about this program is that GM has a big warehouse somewhere with all of the vehicles boxed up on racks and they will get your vehicle off the rack with a super-sized forklift and ship it to you via UPS. This is not the case.
While I am not 100% certain how it works, it does appear to hook you up with vehicles in your area and you will take delivery of it from your local dealership ... without having to worry about price, because it's already been pre-determined by the price you entered online. You can bid for it crazy-low, or you can do the buy-it-now (BIN) price.
You will still have to get your financing in order and I'm not sure how they deal with deals that fall through, but overall I like the system, it's really nothing more than taking the current concept for a used-vehicle system (like Autotrader.com) and moving it to the next level.
Take a look for yourself!
Take a look, let me know what you think. If you actually use the system to buy a car, please post the details on here.
