i have a 05 silverado auto trans it has been acting up lately off and on it will be stuck in 3rd gear. and other times when the truck is started up all gears and everything works great. so i took it to my mechanic friend he said its the tranny control module. so i headed over to the tranny shop and he told me that i have a problem but its not the tranny its my ignition switch not always working correct. so i am going to get a new switch and put it in just wondering if anyone else has ever had this prob or heard of it or have a suggustion of what to do.. thanks for lookin, thanks for all comments
An ignition switch is a good guess and a better guess than a tranny control module which your truck does not have. LOL.
If your transmission takes off in 3rd gear it's in failsafe. This can be caused by a voltage problem from the ignition switch along with a bunch of other things. It would be helpful to know what codes are in memory when it goes into limp mode. Did anyone check your codes?

there are all the codes that have come up.
if that helps
thanks for your help.
Usually when all the solenoid codes pop up like that it indicates a voltage problem like an ignition switch starting to fail. Another indicator is the dash lights will flicker or dim when the truck is started. You can verify the condition by taking a volt meter and "watching" the voltage at the transmission fuse. The voltage will drop to below 9 volts as the starter is cranked. This will more or less prove a bad ignition switch.
