today started out as a good day, my fiance called into work, we both got to sleep in, we got to do some planning for the wedding, i went with my friend to shop for guns, we went out and shot some, took my potato gun too, shot it, found out it shoots 300 yards, when i left my dads, i had no problem at all, pulled into my friends driveway, everything was fine and dandy, as i backed out of his driveway, still nothing was wrong UNTIL i put it in drive.... strange sound and a weird shift, very hard to explain. immediately i thought , " oh god! my transmission is going out" and hoped for the best, drove great all the way through the gears after i got out of first. came to a stop sign, barely shifted down into first. tried to accelerate, and it was like i had the emergency brake on, put it in reverse, and the same thing. luckily i was right in front of a body shop. i pulled into their parking lot nice and easy. as i shifted past neutral and into reverse came this awful sound, grinding, ticking and clacking, i parked it and went inside. talked o one of the guys in there, and he tried it out, reverse, drive, both had this gut wrenching sound. i have a wedding to pay for, been laid off for 5 weeks, and now my transmission has gone out with no warning what so ever. it was like someone flipped a switch.
i had it towed to my uncles shop, and he is going to diagnose the problem in the morning. i will keep yall posted. hopefully its something somewhat minor (unlikely). if anyone can give me some uplifting advise, i really need it. its like i lost a best friend

well, i have been told that the tranny is toast, warm buttery toast.
my uncle has a shop, but he does not get intimate with tranny's, he would just do a swap with a re- manufactured jasper tranny. total cost with labor would be around $1700 with a 100k mile 3 year warranty
for a rebuild with a shift kit, commercial grade 3-4 clutch and a 1 year warranty would be total $1500

that stinks hope everything works out hang in there.
sounds like you burnt the clutches on the tranny. good luck with the build..
That's bad news for sure. Tell you uncle to price out a Goodwrench Transmission for you. There's nothing wrong with Jasper Transmissions but the Goodwrench has a 3 year 100K nationwide warranty.

GM's waranty is the same as Jaspers but Jasper doesn't give you a bunch of crap if it blows up on you. Get the Jasper trans.
I would go Jasper or local rebuild.
When you hear hoofbeats, look for horses not zebras.
I thought Jasper had a 70K warranty. They must have increased it. I have been to the Jasper manufacturing plant and watched them build transmissions. They do a very good job and everything is gone over with a fine tooth comb. The valve bodies are taken all the way apart, cleaned and assembled by a team of woman in a glass room! <G>

wow, that sucks, at least it didn't sound as bad as my neighbors 07 classic silverado, he started to take off, and it made a loud boom, like someone had rear ended him, and popped into neutral. he had to back it into the parking lot cause it wouldn't move forward after that
