Truck just sputters then cuts off without warning
My '97 2500 with a 454 has been good up to this point. In the last couple of days though it has started to give me trouble. Wthout warning it starts to starve for fuel and just sputters and wants to cut off. I happens after I have slowed to a stop and go to pull away again. Doesn't seen to happen as I rolling down the road.
Its been really hot lately. Hottest since I have owned it. Someone has said that mabey I'm vaporizing the fuel. Once, as the truck was shutting off I threw it in neutral and tried to restart. No go. But as soon as I truned the key off then back on, it started right up. I didn't let cool down or anything.
Sometimes it will give me a little trouble starting when its already warm. Likes to turn over a few times then starts but kind of burbles a bit for a second or two. Its only got 142,000 kms on it and I have driven accross Canada with it twice. Just this May was the second time. Not a hitch. It does have a CAI and a better muffle with an 3" out.
Can anyone suggest anything?

Check your fuel pressure and change the fuel filter. Has that ever been done? If so how long ago?1997 Chevy K3500

yeah definalty check your fuel pressure if its your first pump then use ac delco so you wont catch a bad one from the aftermarket

Definitely sounds like a fuel pump to me. At your mileage its very likely. Carry a good size hammer with you. Next time it happens, give the bottom of the tank a good smack right in the middle. Vaporlock is not a problem with these, they have a return line.

I think I will do the fuel filter no matter what anyway. Not sure if it has been done or not but can't hurt. I've only put a little ove 20,000 kms on it so who knows about before. Truck used to be so old guy fifth-wheel hauler so thats why the milage is so low. Pboblem is it would have set adound for weeks at a time. probablely alot longer during winter.
Asked a mechnic today who was the head wrench for16 yrs at the dealership who sold the most GMC trucks in western Canada. He felt pretty sure that it was a fuel pump to. Almost a $1000 to fix though. ****
I guess I should consider myself lucky though. When all this started I was just a couple of minutes from home on the tail end of a 2 hour drive with my camper. We were in the mountains all weekend. I've got AMA (AAA for you US boys) but they wouldn,t have hauled my camper.

the 1000 bucks is for parts and labor xD you can stop by an ac delco place and pick up the parts for around 400 bucks and that for a new sending unit pump, strainer and so on an so fourth and a good tip is to have the tank about empty if your doin it yourself in the drive way

I have the Gibson too and love it, my brother got his from ebay but I wanted a valid warranty(the winter salt here destroys metal) so I got it here. gibson 320000, or you can try one of the vendors here on the forum, they are allways having sales/specials. Either way its a great system and very easy to install and for the price you give it a look.
