Hi, I am new, but would like to know if anyone has suggestions for us. The rear end of my husband 2001 Yukon XL blew out. We are really tight on money and would like to know the cheapest way to do this. Should he try to find the whole axle (I think that what its called) he is fixing it himself with help from a friend. Thanks.
First off, welcome to the Forums. We're glad to have you with us.
There is currently a 2000 Tahoe rear end on Ebay for $150. Take a look.

will that fit a 2001 yukon xl?
Welcome aboard. X2 on buying a good used unit. Call around as shipping is very expensive on a whole differential.

Thanks for the welcomes!! I prob. should have posted that we have a 4x4 also.
Then, as you're shopping around for a used axle, you'll need to make sure you get one with the same gear ratio (RPO code sticker in the glove box will have the code for your gear ratio. There are several RPO code lists on the internet to compare against).

Thanks for the help. Everyone is so nice. Moosetags, we did get the one on E-bay. Thank you, that was a great deal.
