    Default Good Replacement Tires

I'm looking for some good replacement tires for my 99 Tahoe.

Does anyone have any good recommendations?

If money is not an issue I am going to suggest Michelin LTX/MS. I have a set on a 1999 Suburban that now have about 70,000 miles on them and look to still have another 10,000 left. Also, new this year in the SUV market is the Uniroyal Cross Country that is actually rated a longer tread wear than the LTX's and a lot cheaper.

I'll have a look. What are we looking at for a set of 4 of them? Who carries them? I usually just go to the local discount tire company shop and they give me a good price.

That's the local tire company that sells at a discount, not the "Discount Tire Company" that is a chain out West.

I just priced a new set of Michelin LTX/MS (275.16) at my local family owned tire store where I have bought tires for years and they were $750 total. The Uniroyal's were $481, which I am going to try this time. I have had great performance out of my Michelin's but they are pricy. I think they may give a little better ride but for the money difference I'm going to try the new Uniroyal which they told me was actually a higher rated tire wear wise. I Googled them both and compared reviews........(no difference)

WOW! What sort of warranty/service contract does that come with?

Right before I bought my Tahoe new tires were put on. I believe it was the dealer but hard to tell. Its been over three years and they still look new with a LOT of tread depth. They give good handling in snow/rain/gravel/etc. They are the Wild Country Radial AT. I've put over 30,000 miles on em but can't bring myself to justify buying new ones in the condition they're in. Many people I've talked to highly and strongly recommend the BF Goodrich A/T KO or M/T KO for these vehicles as well.

What size and configuration are we talking about? Stock rims and sizes? Is this for a 4x4?

If you're asking me, stock rims and sizes on a 4x4 96 yes. 245 75r16 I believe. Its a bit dark to double-check that right now. The guys on alt.autos.4x4.chevy-trucks rave about the KOs for regular LT duty tires. I'm thinking if I ever have to replace mine, I'll give them a good look as they seem to be very decently priced as well.

I did some checking into it, and tires REALLY are that expensive! I guess the 245's are a big hunk of rubber.
